UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

Our next General Meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. on March 7... hope to see you there!

OUR GENERAL PURPOSE AND OUR GOALS

The purpose of the United Methodist Women is to know God, to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

The Sun City UMW is a wonderful group of ladies, whose general meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month October through June.  We invite all ladies in our community to come and join in the camaraderie and spiritual growth at our meetings.

Doris Watts is our 2012 President.  Belonging to a circle is a good way to get acquainted and to realize your talents. We currently have three active circles:  “Martha Circle”, chaired by Alta Sorrell, meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at 1:00 PM; “Sarah Circle”, chaired by Audrey Ellis, meets the 3rd Wednesday at 10:00 AM.;  “Elizabeth Circle”, chaired by Priscilla Lewis, meets the 3rd Monday at 4 PM. Each circle has it’s own agenda and study group. In addition to the "Circles", we have a  sewing group, co-chaired by Barbara Brossmer and Betty Witherspoon, which meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays in the Church’s fellowship hall at 9:00 AM. They make lap robes and baby layettes.  We also have Non-Circle members (NCMs), comprised of ladies who do not belong to any circle. The 3 circles and NCMs alternately provide lunch for our monthly meetings for a nominal fee.

One of our ongoing projects is raising money for  “Nothing But Nets",  a marvelous project spearheaded by Nancy Causey, at a cost of $10 per net.  These nets are treated with insecticide to prevent the spread of malaria that affects mostly children in Africa.  The treated nets last approximately five years.   Other projects include: "Soles for Souls" (Clean, gently used shoes can be dropped off at our church office); "Recyclables" (cans, plastic and glass) with proceeds determined according to needs.

Yes, We do read!  Wherever there are United Methodist Women Units you will hear about our book reading program.   There are various book categories to choose from, and you may select from different programs as to number of books you wish to read during a given year.

THE SEWING CIRCLE- A SPECIAL INVITATION

Our sewing circle meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 9am. We make baby quilts and layettes for several ministries. This has been a service project for over  forty  years. Come and join us and use your talents to support a great ministry.
