Butterfly / Ladybug / Busy Bee's Bereavement Groups

The Butterfly Bereavement Group was started in February 2004 with 6 charter members. We originally met at different members homes for coffee on a monthly basis to offer support and friendship at the time of losing a loved one. When we grew to a size that was not comfortable to meet in a home we moved our monthly meeting to the Sun City United Methodist Church. After reaching 45 Butterfly members, a second group was created called the Ladybugs.  Soon we found it necessary to provide support to new widows. This created a third group called the 'Busy Bees'.

We offer a monthly bereavement meeting held at 10:00 am on the 4th Thursday of each month (except July)for coffee, sharing and spiritual renewal at the Sun City United Methodist Church. The ladies can share if they want to talk or are welcomed to just enjoy the group's support and friendship.  You need not be a member of the United Methodist Church.

There are lots of planned activities during the month to keep those who are interested active and not sitting alone. We publish monthly newsletters to keep them informed of planned events. Each member can choose when and what activities they want to participate in. The ladies are encouraged to call one another regularly to keep in touch and if feeling the need, they are encouraged to reach out and call a friend. All three groups attend the monthly meeting.

Some of the events we hold are a monthly birthday lunch, a monthly potluck lunch with cards/games, a DVD movie night, an afternoon of shopping at various locations in Southern California, an afternoon matinee at a local performing arts theater, attending the movies, and attending seasonal events around the community or any other event of interest that is suggested by the ladies.

We do community outreach, supporting Lake Elsinore Animal Friends (LEAF), a local battered woman's shelter, and the local Menifee Valley Community Cupboard.
