Commitment
COMMITMENT
Rex S. Wignall, Pastor
Commitment is a central element in following Christ. Without committing to follow Jesus as our Lord and Savior we might describe ourselves as mere admirers or spectators.
Billy Graham tells a story that illustrates how commitment works:
“I heard of an incident that took place at Niagara Falls. A crowd watched as a man rolled a wheelbarrow filled with dirt back and forth on a tight-rope stretched across the falls. When the tightrope walker asked, ‘How many of you believe I can roll a man across in this wheelbarrow?" one spectator very excitedly shouted, ‘I know you can do it!’The tightrope walked said to him, ‘All right brother, then you're the first.’ You couldn't see that man for the cloud of dust he made running away. Why? He SAID he believed it, he THOUGHT he believed it, but he did not have enough faith to commit himself to the wheelbarrow.” like getting into a wheelbarrow for a trip across Niagara Falls, but we are asking for you to make a commitment. We would like every person or family in our church to make an Estimate of Giving for 2011. Our planning for the year will go much more smoothly if we have a good idea what to expect from each of you. We are determined to move away from the deficit budgeting and spending by which we have operated in recent years. We appear to be finishing 2010 well, and hope to meet our goals for apportionments (the mission and ministries beyond our local church). We would like to enter the coming year focusing our attention on our ministry rather than on having to ask for the resources it will take us to carry out that ministry. Real faith, Dr. Graham says, “is getting into the wheelbarrow.”
In our stewardship program for 2011, we’re not asking for anything daring or dramatic
All it takes is a commitment from you. Jesus made a promise to us in Luke 6:38. He said, “Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back.”
